Open competition entry - Organized by: University of western Macedonia - Location: Florina, Greece - Year : 2019
The goal for this project was to form a connection with local architecture while maintaining the character of a fully functional contemporary building. The point of reference was the typology of the Ottoman residence which is prevailing in the area. The Ottoman residence is divided horizontally into two zones. The ground floor is built out of stone, while the upper floors are constructed with wood. Other architectural elements borrowed directly from the Ottoman residence are the 'hayat' and the roof. The 'hayat' in the current design is elongated and transformed into a stoa(covered walkway). Large roof openings are used to provide adequate natural light for the workshops.
